Accounts Assistant


Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and organised Accounts Assistant to support the finance function of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end processes, and supporting budgeting, VAT, audit, and foreign currency management activities. This role requires strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a busy finance team. Key Responsibilities Maintain purchase and sales ledgers accurately and efficiently Perform general bookkeeping duties and maintain financial records Prepare and reconcile accounts, ensuring all discrepancies are investigated and resolved Maintain cashbooks and bank accounts, including regular bank reconciliations Process and post journal entries into the accounting system Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts Provide support with company secretarial duties and statutory filings Manage and monitor foreign currency transactions and balances Assist with internal and external company audits by preparing required documentation and schedules Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures Support the wider finance team with ad hoc administrative and accounting tasks as required Skills & Experience Required Previous experience in an accounts or bookkeeping role Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Experience with VAT returns and management accounts preparation is desirable Knowledge of foreign currency transactions would be advantageous
