Field Service Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical / Horticulture Systems) £50,000+ Based in Hull UK travel required Company van and fuel card provided This is a field-based engineering role supporting horticultural and controlled environment systems across the UK. The focus is on maintaining and improving automated growing environments where environmental control systems, electrical infrastructure and mechanical equipment all work together to keep production stable and consistent. Candidates from food manufacturing are welcome, particularly where they have strong electrical and multi-skilled maintenance experience, but the core environment here is horticulture and controlled systems rather than food production. What you'll be doing Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across UK sites Responding to reactive breakdowns and system faults Diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical issues across controlled environment systems Supporting horticultural and automated growing operations Working independently on customer sites, often with minimal supervision Completing accurate service reports and maintenance documentation Managing your own workload across multiple UK locations Occasional overnight stays depending on travel requirements What we're looking for Strong multi-skilled engineering background, ideally with an electrical bias Experience in horticulture, agriculture, controlled environment systems, or similar automation-heavy settings Food manufacturing engineers will be considered where strong electrical and maintenance experience is present Confident fault-finding across electrical and mechanical systems Experience with PPM and reactive maintenance in live operational environments Comfortable working across varied environments, including plant rooms and production facilities Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and stay away when required Self-sufficient, organised and capable of working independently Strong communication skills when working with site teams and operators Full UK driving licence The reality of the role This is not a single-site maintenance job. You'll be moving between different controlled environments where reliability is critical and systems are often operating continuously. The work is varied, technically interesting and requires engineers who are comfortable thinking on their feet without constant supervision. If you want routine, fixed-site work, this won't suit you. If you want autonomy, variety and exposure to modern controlled environment engineering
