Job Description: Porter Wrightington Wigan & Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan Lane, WN1 2NN Various shifts to cover - 6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm, 10pm to 6am working Monday – Sunday Band 2 - £12.92 per hour Monday– Friday £18.22 per hour on Saturdays and £23.65 on Sundays We are looking for reliable, compassionate, and hardworking Porters to join our bank scheme to cover shifts in the Estates & Facilities team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of the hospital support service, you will help ensure the smooth running of clinical operations by safely and efficiently moving patients, goods, equipment, and waste throughout the Trust. You will play a vital part in maintaining a safe, clean, and caring environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This is a temporary role. Interviews are being held on Wednesday 23rd April from 10.00pm Key Responsibilities · As a vital part of our team, you’ll provide a comprehensive portering service across our Trust sites. Your duties will include: · Safely transport patients (including the deceased) by bed, chair, or trolley between wards and departments. · Move goods, including mail, pharmacy items, medical gases, samples, linen, and waste, in line with Trust procedures. · Operate portering equipment and vehicles as directed. · Respond promptly to radio or pager calls and support colleagues as part of the wider portering and estates team. · Report defects, incidents, and potential hazards to your supervisor. Key skills & Qualities: · A full clean UK driving licence. · Has good communication and interpersonal skills. · Is physically fit and able to undertake manual handling tasks. · Can remain calm, professional, and compassionate in a busy hospital environment. · Works well as part of a team and can adapt to changing priorities. · Experience working in a customer service, healthcare, or facilities environment desirable but not essential. Please note successful applicants will be supplied with uniform, however you are required to supply their own safety boots for this role. Who are NHS Professionals?
