Job role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Lincolnshire (On-site) Employment type: Permanent Salary: £52,000pa dependent on experience Rise10 Recruitment is exclusively partnering with a highly innovative automation solutions provider to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. Due to continued growth and project demand, they are seeking an experienced design engineer ready to step into a hands-on leadership role, driving both technical excellence and team development. The Role: As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take full ownership of the mechanical design lifecycle — from initial concept through to production. You’ll lead a small team, oversee design quality, and play a key role in delivering complex automation projects. This is a highly collaborative position, working closely with project managers, production teams, and customers, while also mentoring junior engineers and shaping best practices within the design function. Key Responsibilities: Design Leadership * Lead end-to-end mechanical design from concept to production-ready output * Chair design reviews with internal teams and external stakeholders * Allocate and review work across the design team * Mentor and develop junior engineers * Maintain and improve drawing office standards Project Delivery * Interpret technical specifications and project scope * Manage multiple projects against timelines and budgets * Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and production teams Mechanical Design * Design robotic cells, conveyors, feeders, and end-of-arm tooling * Specify robots and associated equipment * Perform mechanical calculations (motors, gearboxes, shafts, etc.) * Produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings for bespoke machinery Support & Commissioning * Assist with build, testing, and troubleshooting * Provide on-site support during installation when required Skills & Experience Required: * Strong experience with 3D CAD software (Onshape and/or SolidWorks) * Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD * Solid understanding of BS308 drafting standards * Knowledge of EU Machinery Directive and safety standards * Experience designing robotic cells and automation systems * Strong understanding of mechanical components, materials, and fabrication processes * Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams * Confident communicator with the ability to engage customers Qualifications: * Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a recognised apprenticeship * Minimum 8 years’ experience in mechanical design, ideally within automation or a similar industry * Previous leadership or mentoring experience is highly desirable Why Apply? * Opportunity to step into a genuine leadership role * Work on cutting-edge automation and robotics projects * Be part of a growing, forward-thinking engineering environment * Exclusive role managed by Rise10 Recruitment
