Waste Collection Operative

Hours: Tuesday to Friday – 09.25 hours per day (37 hours per week) Rate: £13.26 per hour Location: Borough-wide service delivery Start/Finish Point: Depot-based We are currently recruiting Waste Collection Operatives to support a borough-wide household waste and recycling service. This is an excellent opportunity to join a frontline operational team delivering essential public services within the community. Role Overview You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering daily household waste collection services, supporting community priorities and ensuring high standards of service delivery across the borough. Service Overview Working Day: All staff are required to fulfil their contracted working hours of 09.25 hours per day, starting and finishing at the depot. Working Week: The service operates on a Tuesday to Friday schedule, providing a three-day weekend. Following recent operational changes to improve health & safety and support staff wellbeing, the service now operates under the following structure: * All staff must start each shift from the depot * Once daily collections are completed, all staff must remain on site until the end of the working day (3:45pm) * Staff will be required to work Good Friday * Christmas catch-up overtime will be required where necessary * Overtime will be paid accordingly These changes are designed to improve operational safety, service consistency, and staff support across the Waste Service. Key Responsibilities * Undertake operational waste collection duties in all weather conditions * Carry out physically and mentally demanding tasks in a safe and professional manner * Support daily household waste and recycling collections * Work as part of a crew to ensure completion of daily service schedules * Operate in line with health & safety policies and operational procedures * Deliver a professional, customer-focused service to members of the public * Follow instructions from supervisors and work effectively within a team environment Candidate Requirements * Physically fit and able to undertake manual work * Reliable, punctual and able to work to daily schedules * Strong teamwork and communication skills * Commitment to health & safety procedures * Positive attitude and strong work ethic * Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Additional Information * Safety-critical role * Full training and induction provided * Immediate start available subject to compliance checks
