Engineering Lead


Lead Engineer Private Healthcare Environment – London Permanent | 37.5 Hours Per Week Salary: £49,000 - £55,000 per annum (Dependent on experience, training, and qualifications) The Role An established private healthcare provider with a network of acute and specialist facilities is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to join its Operations team at a flagship London site. This is a Monday–Friday role, working core business hours with paid on-call participation. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining critical building services and medical-support infrastructure while providing day-to-day leadership to on-site engineering teams. This is a full-time, permanent position (37.5 hours per week), requiring flexibility to support operational requirements across multiple locations within the region. Key Responsibilities Ensure the safe, compliant, and effective delivery of all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Reactive Maintenance activities in line with internal procedures and statutory requirements Lead the engineering response to building services and equipment faults, ensuring timely resolution with minimal disruption to clinical services Oversee the delivery of EBME maintenance routines, ensuring medical equipment remains safe, compliant, and fit for use Provide day-to-day leadership and line management of site-based engineering personnel Allocate workloads, monitor performance, and ensure engineers maintain appropriate training and competency levels Foster a positive, safety-focused working culture that supports continuous improvement and professional development Monitor Reactive & Maintenance (R\&M) budgets, identifying variances and contributing to cost control initiatives Coordinate engineering coverage across multiple healthcare sites, including rota-based on-call support (expenses reimbursed for travel away from base site) Manage sub-contractors and oversee minor works projects where required Candidate Requirements City & Guilds Part 3, HNC, or NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Valid CSCS or ECS card (if electrically qualified), at an appropriate level Proven experience in building services engineering maintenance, ideally within healthcare, critical services, or similarly regulated environments Demonstrable leadership experience, including team supervision, task allocation, and performance management Strong working knowledge of health & safety legislation, including risk management, fire safety, and Legionella control Excellent fault-finding, organisational, and communication skills Time-served apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline Fire Safety or Fire Risk Assessment training (desirable) Experience using CAFM systems Understanding of energy management systems and/or environmental performance reporting Package & Benefits The employer offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with service) Private pension scheme Private healthcare cover Employee discount schemes and wellbeing benefits Enhanced family-friendly policies Life assurance Employee recognition and reward programmes Funded training and professional development opportunities Additional Information Permanent position 37.5 hours per week Monday–Friday core hours Paid on-call rota
