Lead Commissioning and Testing Engineer (Contract) Location: Northamptonshire Duration: 6-month rolling contract Contract: Outside IR35 Rate: £500 per day We are currently looking for an experienced Lead Commissioning and Testing Engineer to support a major project within a logistics and warehousing environment. This is a hands-on role, requiring strong technical capability alongside effective project coordination skills. Key Responsibilities Act as the technical point of contact between internal teams, vendors, and third-party suppliers Coordinate and manage automation activities across multiple stakeholders Produce weekly snagging lists, project updates, and progress reports Review, proofread, and technically verify PLC and HMI designs, code, and documentation Support installation, commissioning, and issue resolution on site Ensure systems are delivered in line with project scope, standards, and timelines Essential Experience Strong project coordination / project management experience within automation projects Proven background working with logistics, warehousing, or distribution centre automation Hands-on experience with PLCs and HMIs (able to review, challenge, and validate technical work) Experience working directly with vendors and system integrators Comfortable producing clear technical reports and managing snagging actions Able to operate independently and take ownership of technical delivery Desirable Experience Commissioning or site-based controls engineering experience Exposure to large-scale automated material handling systems Strong stakeholder communication skillsThis role suits a technically credible, hands-on engineer who can bridge the gap between project management and shop-floor automation.
