Manufacturing Facilities Engineer – Defence Engineering Location: North West – Engineering Centre of Excellence Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 + Benefits We are working with a well-established UK defence engineering manufacturer with more than 100 years of experience delivering high-integrity mechanical and structural systems to global defence programmes. As part of continued investment in its North West Engineering Centre of Excellence, the business is looking to appoint a Manufacturing Facilities Engineer to take ownership of site infrastructure, maintenance strategy, and facilities performance. The Role This is a key engineering position responsible for ensuring the manufacturing facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in full regulatory compliance. The role blends long-term planning with hands-on delivery, covering capital projects, maintenance systems, contractor management, and continuous improvement across the site. You will work closely with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime, improve reliability, and support the long-term growth of the operation. Key Responsibilities * Develop and manage a rolling three-year facilities and infrastructure plan aligned to business objectives * Lead CAPEX and improvement projects from justification through to delivery * Manage external contractors and suppliers, ensuring safety, compliance, and performance standards are met * Oversee day-to-day facilities operation, maintenance, and site infrastructure * Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental regulations * Implement and manage preventive maintenance programmes to maximise equipment uptime * Carry out inspections, audits, and risk assessments, addressing hazards proactively * Support production and manufacturing engineering teams to maintain operational continuity * Develop and optimise the site CMMS * Drive continuous improvement and best-practice facilities standards Requirements * HNC / HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Facilities Engineering * Strong working knowledge of PUWER, LOTO, and general HSE requirements * Proven experience delivering facilities-related CAPEX and improvement projects * Hands-on experience with CMMS systems and contractor management * NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification * Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills Desirable Experience * Multiskilled engineering background or maintenance supervision experience * Project management qualifications (PRINCE2, PMP) or LEAN / Six Sigma training * Experience with BMS / BAS systems and CAD tools Package * Salary £45,000 – £55,000 * Pension scheme: 4% employee / 7% employer * Half-day Fridays * Life assurance and enhanced company sick pay * Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing initiatives * Long-service awards and additional holiday entitlement * Free on-site parking and EV charging * Cycle to Work scheme * Clear, structured career progression Data Protection Notice: By applying for this position, you consent to Recruit Engineering processing and storing your personal data, including your CV, contact details, and any other relevant information, for the purpose of providing work-finding services.
