Production Engineer A specialist electro-mechanical manufacturer in the defence and critical systems space is looking for a hands-on Production Engineer to support the full product lifecycle across a growing portfolio of engineered systems. About the Role As a Production Engineer, you’ll bridge engineering design and production, ensuring products are manufacturable, cost-effective and delivered to the required quality standards. You’ll support New Product Introduction (NPI), optimise manufacturing processes, drive improvements, and provide day-to-day technical support to production teams. The role includes visibility across both legacy and new products, with exposure to mechanical, electrical and system-level assemblies. Key Responsibilities * Act as the interface between engineering design and production to ensure efficient manufacture * Support NPI processes and the transition from prototype to volume build * Develop and maintain work instructions, process documentation and quality checks * Drive process improvements across quality, throughput and cost * Troubleshoot production issues and provide technical support to shop floor teams * Specify and/or design jigs, fixtures, tooling and test equipment * Support product testing and safe operational practices * Provide oversight to quality support functions Requirements * Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline * 5+ years’ experience in a production engineering role within mechanical/electrical manufacturing * Experience working across both engineering and hands-on production environments * Knowledge of assembly, integration and build processes for electro-mechanical systems * Strong documentation and quality system capability Desirable * Product or system testing experience * Exposure to regulated or defence-related products * Background in Design Engineering and/or CAD proficiency What’s Offered * Permanent position with competitive salary circa £50k (DOE) * Varied and hands-on responsibilities typical of a growing SME * Opportunity to influence manufacturing processes and product lifecycle decisions * Exposure to complex, high-reliability electro-mechanical systems in a niche sector * Close collaboration with engineering, operations, quality and design functions
