Design Engineer

An established engineering business is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of bespoke special-purpose machinery on a contract basis. The successful contractor will work across the full design lifecycle, from concept and layout through to detailed design, supporting manufacture, FAT, and site activities where required. Key Responsibilities: * Design bespoke mechanical solutions for special-purpose machinery * Produce 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings * Develop concepts and layouts based on customer requirements * Liaise with manufacturing, electrical, and project teams * Support build, FAT, and installation activities * Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and safety requirements Essential Experience: * Proven background in special-purpose or bespoke machinery design * Strong mechanical engineering knowledge * Proficient in SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar CAD software * Experience producing drawings for manufacture * Understanding of fabrication and machining processes Desirable: * Automation, conveyors, or materials handling experience * Pneumatics and/or hydraulics knowledge * Site and commissioning exposure Qualifications: * HNC / HND / Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
