Key Worker & Teaching Assistant - SEMH School (Portsmouth) - Immediate Start Academics are currently recruiting dedicated and resilient individuals to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Portsmouth. We have immediate full-time vacancies for both a Key Worker and a Teaching Assistant, supporting students with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs. As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide 1:1 and small-group support in the classroom, helping to deliver tailored learning activities and contributing to a safe and nurturing environment. You will work closely with teaching staff to ensure each student receives the guidance, encouragement and consistency they need. The Key Worker role is an outreach position that involves travelling to students' homes, transporting them into school, and offering consistent pastoral support throughout the day. You will be working with young people who face significant barriers to education, so the ability to build trust and provide calm, reliable support is essential. A full driving licence and the use of your own vehicle are required. We are looking for individuals who are confident, patient and committed to helping young people with complex needs. Experience within SEMH, SEN or challenging behaviour settings is beneficial, although candidates from care, youth work, mentoring or similar backgrounds are also encouraged to apply. The school offers smaller class sizes than mainstream environments, allowing staff to deliver highly personalised support and build meaningful relationships with students.
