Estimating Manager

Managing Estimator | Main Contractor | East London | Public Sector | £100k+ Package A well-established contractor is looking for a Managing Estimator to lead their estimating function and oversee a steady pipeline of public-sector new build and refurbishment projects across London and the South East. You'll head up a team of six estimators, working closely with senior leadership to bring structure, consistency and technical rigour to all tendering activity from early feasibilities through to full two-stage submissions. This is a key strategic hire for the business, ideal for someone confident leading teams, shaping processes and setting the commercial tone across a busy pre-construction department. The Role • Lead and manage a team of six estimators, supporting development, workload planning and quality control • Oversee all tendering activity across £100k£10m public-sector new build and refurbishment schemes • Review tender documentation, identify risks, and ensure pricing accuracy and compliance • Oversee take-offs, BoQs, rate build-ups, prelims, and subcontractor enquiries • Manage single-stage and two-stage tender processes through to adjudication and submission • Work closely with Pre-Construction, Commercial and Operations teams to shape winning bids • Present tender approaches, cost plans and VE options to senior stakeholders and client teams • Maintain strong industry relationships to support repeat business and early-market engagement What they're looking for • Proven experience as a Managing Estimator or Senior Estimator ready to step up • Strong background in public sector new build and refurbishment projects • Deep understanding of JCT contracts, tendering routes and construction procurement • Experience leading or mentoring estimating teams • Able to bring structure, clarity and consistency to cost planning and tender processes • Strong communicator, highly organised, commercially aware • Confident interfacing with clients, consultants and internal leadership The Company A financially stable and well-respected main contractor delivering public-sector projects across education, leisure, healthcare and community sectors.
