Engineering Placement Student


Greater Birmingham & Solihull Institute of Technology GBSIoT Short Term Engineering Placement Student Salary: £23,726 per annum Short term placement, 18-24 weeks (to be agreed following interview) An Institute of Technology (IoT) is an exciting place to gain top-quality training and qualifications in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)-based subjects. Located across England, IoTs are a national network of partnerships between local colleges, universities, and leading employers. Backed by a £290 million government investment, IoTs deliver the very best in technical education. The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology (GBSIoT) partnership is led by Solihull College and University Centre, alongside core partners Birmingham City University, South and City College Birmingham and Aston University, supported by Birmingham Metropolitan College, University of Birmingham, and University College Birmingham. We wish to recruit a Short-Term Engineering Placement (STEP) student who will have the opportunity to use their technical skills and apply them to improve links between local engineering businesses and GBSIoT partners working with our educational institutions. The successful candidate will work with specific employers, engaging them and bring into the GBSIoT ecosystem, learn about the SME workforce profile and the technical challenges they face adopting I4.0, facilitate the development of models of resourcing which help local SME employers to develop capacity to design, and implement and maintain industry 4.0 technologies within their existing staff teams. Candidates should be coming to the end of their degree and be able to start the placement fulltime in January 2026. The placement can last from 18-24 weeks, depending on your degree requirements. You will need to be enrolled on a degree level course in the UK. Candidates must also have right to work in the UK that is not time limited and does not require sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route either at the start of the scheme or on completion. Please note if you are selected for the next stage in the process, you will be required to attend the College’s premises, unless exceptional circumstances apply.
