Design Manager


My client is looking for a Design Manager that will lead the delivery of high-quality, technically compliant engineering solutions across water, wastewater, and infrastructure projects. This role oversees multi-disciplinary teams and design consultants, ensuring all designs are robust, safe, cost-effective, and delivered on time and within budget. Responsibilities * Lead the delivery of technical design solutions across water, wastewater, and infrastructure project and ensure all designs meet statutory, regulatory, and client standards * Provide concept, outline, and detailed design for pipelines, sewers, pumping stations, and treatment processes * Manage external design consultants and ensure contractual duties are met and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams * Oversee development of robust, operable, and maintainable asset designs * Review, validate, and approve drawings, calculations, and specifications * Support and monitor project teams with technical input and design decisions * Manage design budgets and resource allocations * Implement design change control procedures * Identify design risks and opportunities * Support engagement of specialist suppliers and technical partners * Collaborate with operational, maintenance, and strategic stakeholders * Provide oversight for temporary works requirements and design coordination Essential * Minimum 10 years’ experience in design and design management * Strong background in foul water drainage and potable water mains * Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent * Membership of a recognised engineering institution (or working toward IEng/CEng) * Strong communication and stakeholder management skills * Experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams * Proven ability to interrogate and challenge design information * Strong time management and organisational skills * Ability to deliver high-quality design outputs to deadlines Desirables * Experience working within large infrastructure programmes * Knowledge of BIM and common data environments * Understanding of temporary works processes and responsibilities * Experience supporting supply-chain and technical procurement * Ability to develop design trackers and progress reporting dashboards * Strong relationship-building skills with clients and partners Benefits * Competitive salary * Company car or car allowance * All other addition benefits available
