Navigational Surveyor

With world-class facilities and decades of experience in hydrodynamics, navigation, and coastal processes, the organisation supports complex maritime, port, and offshore projects around the world. Role Overview We are seeking a highly capable Navigational Surveyor with a strong engineering and scientific background to join the team based in Oxford. This role would particularly suit candidates with an operational maritime background, such as an ex-Royal Navy navigator or a professional with equivalent technical navigation experience. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting navigation risk assessments, maritime simulations, and technical consultancy projects, applying both analytical and practical expertise to real-world engineering and environmental challenges. Key Responsibilities * Conduct and support navigation and maritime risk assessments for coastal, port, and offshore developments. * Interpret, analyse, and apply navigational and operational data to engineering and environmental projects. * Participate in and support navigation simulations, vessel manoeuvring studies, and marine operations planning. * Liaise with internal technical specialists and external stakeholders to deliver accurate, evidence-based consultancy outcomes. * Produce high-quality technical reports, documentation, and presentations for clients and partners. * Support the development and review of navigational models and data processing tools. * Contribute to project delivery planning, scheduling, and quality assurance processes. Required Qualifications and Experience * A degree in engineering, science, or a related technical discipline. * 5–10 years of relevant maritime or navigational experience, ideally including operational shipboard or marine consultancy work. * Strong understanding of marine operations, navigational systems, and data interpretation. * Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills. * Comfortable engaging with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams. * Ability to work from the Oxford office as required (typically 2–3 days per week, or full-time on occasion). * Professional membership of a relevant body (e.g., Institution of Civil Engineers), ideally Chartered or working towards Chartered status. Desirable Attributes * Former Royal Navy navigation or marine operations background. * Previous experience within a consultancy environment. * Familiarity with maritime simulation systems, marine risk assessment, or hydrodynamic modelling
