Your Role and Responsibilities

As Head of Music, you will:

  • Lead, manage, and develop the Music Department, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality curriculum across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level).

  • Plan and deliver engaging, challenging, and differentiated Music lessons up to and including Key Stage 5.

  • Inspire students to develop a strong understanding and passion for musical principles, theory, performance, and composition.

  • Oversee the assessment of student progress, providing constructive feedback and contributing to reports.

  • Drive curriculum innovation and resource development within the department.

  • Organise and lead extracurricular music activities, concerts, and events, enriching the learning experience for all students.

  • Mentor and support departmental staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.

  • Act as a form tutor and contribute positively to the wider life of the school community.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong academic background in Music at degree level or equivalent.

  • Proven experience teaching Music successfully across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5.

  • Demonstrable leadership experience within a Music Department or similar educational setting.

  • A genuine passion for music and a profound commitment to inspiring the next generation of musicians and creative thinkers.

  • Excellent subject knowledge across the music curriculum, with expertise in various aspects of performance, theory, composition, and music history.

  • A dynamic, adaptable, and innovative teaching and leadership style that fosters academic rigour and creativity.

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment.

  • A collaborative leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, eager to contribute to a thriving school community.
