1:1 Teaching Assistant Mainstream Primary Poole, Dorset

Are you a calm, patient and dedicated individual with experience supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education are currently recruiting a full-time 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a mainstream primary school in Poole, Dorset , starting in September 2025 . This role involves working closely with a child requiring additional support due to SEMH needs , helping them access the curriculum and develop in a positive, nurturing environment. You ll play a vital role in their progress, confidence, and ability to thrive in the classroom.

A school tour is available for shortlisted candidates before progressing to the formal interview stage, which will be held over the coming weeks.

1:1 Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs throughout the school day
• Assist with classroom tasks, ensuring the pupil is engaged and supported in their learning
• Implement strategies to manage behaviour and support emotional regulation
• Liaise closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals where required
• Support the pupil in developing social skills and building positive relationships
• Maintain detailed records of progress, behaviour, and daily achievements

Qualifications for One-to-one TA:

• Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs is essential
• Experience working with primary-aged children in a nursery, coaching role, or childcare setting or as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant is essential
• CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare is desirable but not mandatory.
• A degree in Education, Psychology or a similar field.
• Strong interpersonal skills and emotional resilience
• A calm, adaptable and encouraging nature
• Ability to build trust and rapport with children and staff
• Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
