Production Engineer - Electronics Manufacturing

Location: Chelmsford, Essex
Salary: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package
Hours: Mon-Thu: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM Fri: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM



About the Role

Join an innovative leader in developing cutting-edge technology across Civil Aerospace, Defence, Space, Industrial, Medical, and Scientific sectors. As a Production Engineer , you'll support manufacturing operations for high-profile projects, contributing to real-world impact.



Key Responsibilities

  • Perform component-level fault-finding to diagnose production and performance issues.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supply teams to resolve technical issues.

  • Investigate, document, and report faults on products while driving improvements to eliminate recurring issues.

  • Assist with the creation of balanced production lines, with flexibility to adapt to changing requirements.

  • Write and update clear, concise work instructions (SOPs) for operations.

  • Create and update configuration control documents and manufacturing standard times.

  • Write, review, and complete process FMEA, control plans, and risk assessments.

  • Analyse designs to ensure they meet DFM/DFA criteria and manage the NPI process.

  • Drive change management processes and product improvements.

  • Support sales with customer and project bid data preparation.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement.



Skills & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electronics, Manufacturing, or Engineering.

  • Extensive experience in electronics test and manufacturing engineering.

  • Knowledge of mechanical manufacturing philosophies (DFM/DFA).

  • Experience in electrical and mechanical assembly, manufacturing, and test processes.

  • Strong analytical skills and fault-finding expertise, particularly in electronics down to component level.

  • Knowledge of RF test techniques, high voltage electronics, and encapsulation is beneficial.

  • Experience in problem-solving methodologies (8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis).

  • Proficiency with ERP/SAP systems and understanding of SPC data is preferable.

  • Practical experience in applying CI, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, and quality tools is ideal.
