Buyer (Materials + Plant)

Permanent Buyer – Construction / Civil Engineering Location: Outskirts of Newcastle Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time Sector: Construction, Civil Engineering, Build, Structural, M&E A well-established construction and built environment contractor, operating across civils, build and M&E, is looking to appoint a permanent Buyer to join its procurement function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone already working in construction procurement, or someone from a builders’ merchant / construction materials supplier background who has strong product knowledge and is keen to move into a Buyer role with a progressive contractor. The role is a group-wide position, supporting multiple divisions across building, civil engineering, structural works, mechanical and electrical, and wider construction operations. The Role * Procurement of construction materials across live projects * Plant on-hire and off-hire coordination * Liaising with site teams to understand material and plant requirements * Obtaining quotes and comparing supplier prices, availability and lead times * Raising purchase orders accurately and efficiently * Maintaining regular contact with suppliers and subcontractors * Supporting best value purchasing across the group * Assisting with subcontract procurement where required * Working closely with operational, commercial and site teams What We’re Looking For * Ideally 2–4 years’ buying / procurement experience, or more * Construction, civil engineering or building sector experience would be highly beneficial * Builders’ merchant or construction materials supplier experience would also be highly relevant * Strong knowledge of materials supplied into civil engineering and construction projects * Confident communicator with suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams * Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple requirements at once * Keen to develop a long-term career within construction procurement What’s on Offer * Permanent Buyer role with a well-established contractor * Based on the outskirts of Newcastle * Group-wide role covering build, civils, structural and M&E divisions * Competitive basic salary, aligned with experience * Competitive benefits package * Excellent long-term progression and personal development * Support towards CIPS / MCIPS formal training For more information, please apply via CV-Library or contact David Fletcher of Fulcrum Recruitment
