School Head of Estates

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 Location: Derby (with travel across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire) Contract: Temporary (potential to become permanent) Start Date: ASAP Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible working; office-based approx. 2 days per week) I am looking for an experienced Estates & Facilities Manager to oversee the management, maintenance and compliance of a multi-site educational estate. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage estates & facilities operations, including maintenance programmes and capital works Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and statutory requirements Oversee asset management planning, budgeting, and resource allocation Manage contractors, projects and service delivery across multiple sites Lead and develop a small team, promoting high standards and safe working practices Deliver estates improvement projects (e.g. building services, boiler replacements, refurbishment works) Monitor performance, identify risks, and implement effective solutionsEssential Requirements Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and legal compliance Proven experience leading and managing teams Experience managing estates, facilities or property portfolios Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle (regular travel required) Ability to manage budgets, contractors and multiple projectsDesirable Project management experience within building services or maintenance environments Experience working across multi-site operationsAdditional Information DBS check required Flexible working pattern with a mix of office and site-based work This is an excellent opportunity with the potential to transition into a permanent roleWhat you'll receive Competitive daily rate Ongoing support from a dedicated Hays Education consultant Free CPD and safeguarding training Access to the Hays app for easy timesheets and job updates CV and interview guidance whenever you need it REFER A FRIENDKnow someone perfect for a school role?
