An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Substation Engineer to join a leading engineering consultancy delivering sustainable design and infrastructure solutions across the UK energy sector. This role sits within a high-performing transmission and distribution team working across industrial, utility-scale and renewable energy projects. You'll be involved in the delivery of complex HV and EHV substation projects, supporting the transition of the UK energy network and working closely with key industry stakeholders. The Role As a Senior Substation Engineer, you will take responsibility for the technical delivery of substation engineering projects across the full lifecycle, working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Key responsibilities include: Supporting client engagement from early-stage design through to project delivery Delivering small to medium-sized new build, retrofit and reinforcement projects Producing key electrical engineering deliverables and design documentation Working with CAD and engineering teams to develop safe, efficient substation solutions Interpreting National Grid, DNO and relevant British/IEC standards Ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and undertaking design risk assessments Coordinating across civils, protection & control, earthing and systems studies teams Preparing HV/EHV plant specifications and reviewing supplier documentation Supporting bid development and technical proposals Delivering work to agreed safety, cost, quality and programme targets About You You will likely bring: Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline Experience working as a substation or plant engineer in regulated environments Strong experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS and GIS) from 11kV to 400kV Knowledge of transmission and distribution systems and operational interfaces Experience producing feasibility studies, reports, design deliverables and cost estimates Experience working on utility projects (e.g. National Grid and/or DNO frameworks) Strong understanding of LV systems and substation distribution Ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders Experience delivering engineering outputs safely, on time and within budget Desirable experience: CDAE authorisation Amtech experience for LVAC selectivity studies Exposure to HVDC primary plant systems What's on Offer Opportunity to work on major UK infrastructure and energy transition projects Strong technical development within a specialist engineering team Hybrid and flexible working arrangements Exposure to complex, high-value transmission and distribution programmes Clear progression opportunities within a growing sector This is a strong opportunity for a Senior Substation Engineer looking to deepen their technical expertise while contributing to critical national infrastructure and the energy transition.
