Psychologist (Occupational Psychology)

Psychologist (Occupational Psychology) Central London £50,985 A psychology career like no other MI5 keeps the country safe from serious threats like terrorism and attempts by states to harm the UK, its people and way of life. We carry out investigations by obtaining, analysing, and assessing intelligence, and then work with a range of partners including MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt these threats. Through our protective security arm, we provide advice and guidance to government, businesses and other organisations about how to keep themselves safe. A role in MI5 means you’ll do unique and challenging work in a supportive and encouraging environment, making a real difference to UK national security. As a Psychologist, you’ll apply your specialist knowledge, skills and experience to support MI5 and its people. This is an applied, delivery focused role, operating within an internal consultancy model, where psychological evidence is used pragmatically to address real organisational needs. You’ll deliver defined consultancy projects and pieces of work, supporting scoping activity with stakeholders, managing delivery, and providing clear, evidence-based advice and guidance. You’ll engage with customers to understand their needs, gather and analyse data, and translate findings into practical advice and tools that can be used confidently in decision‑making. The work is varied, hands‑on and grounded in real organisational challenges, giving you exposure to applied occupational psychology you won’t find in many other settings. From the outset, you’ll receive a structured induction and work closely with senior occupational psychologists, learning through delivery, feedback and reflection. As your experience grows, you’ll take increasing ownership of your work while continuing to develop your consultancy skills and professional judgement. Alongside on‑the‑job learning, you’ll be supported in progressing towards chartership, helping you lay strong foundations for a long‑term career in occupational psychology. So what about you? You’ll hold a postgraduate qualification in Occupational Psychology (or equivalent) and be eligible to complete stage 2 of the Qualification in Occupational Psychology. You’ll have experience working on occupational psychology related projects within the public or private sector or a consultancy setting. You’ll be organised, thoughtful and collaborative, able to explain psychological concepts clearly to non‑specialist audiences and keen to keep learning as part of a supportive professional team. Beyond the role itself, you’ll share our values of integrity, respect and creativity, and be motivated by the opportunity to use your skills to make a positive difference to the UK. At MI5 diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.
