Location: Central Wigan Team: Central Wigan Locality - Child Protection & Court Team Working Pattern: Hybrid (predominantly remote) We are seeking an experienced and committed Children's Social Worker to join a busy and well‑established Child Protection and Court team in Wigan. This role focuses on referral and assessment, child protection, and care proceedings, supporting children, young people and families through robust safeguarding and long‑term planning. This is a supportive, high‑performing team led by an experienced Team Manager, with a Deputy Team Manager, Senior Practitioner, five Social Workers, a Family Support Worker, and dedicated domestic abuse specialists. Despite being the busiest locality team in Wigan, the service is known for its strong management, collaborative culture and realistic caseloads. Key Responsibilities Manage a mixed caseload of CIN, CP and CLA cases within the court arena Undertake statutory social work duties including assessments, care planning and safeguarding interventions Progress work through PLO and court proceedings Work closely with partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes Maintain high‑quality, timely case recording and reporting Plan and manage your own diary to balance direct work and case management Team & Working Environment Average caseload: around 20 Highly flexible hybrid working - attendance in the office is requested for one hour per week on Tuesdays (additional office working welcomed but not required) Free on‑site parking Central Wigan locality covering approximately a 3‑mile radius Non‑drivers are supported and successfully working within the team Requirements Social Work England registration Strong experience in Child Protection and Court Work Ability to manage competing demands in a fast‑paced service Commitment to safeguarding and achieving the best outcomes for children Additional Information Interviews are planned for next week The service can wait for a notice period of up to four weeks An ASAP start is preferred due to urgent service need, but DfE rules cannot be overlookedFor more information on this role or for a discussion about Social Work opportunities across England and Wales please contact Gemma at Caritas Recruitment - g.bridgman @ (url removed) / (phone number removed) Caritas Recruitment is acting as an Employment Business in relation to this vacancy
