Project Engineer £45,000 – £48,000 | Measham, Swadlincote | Mon–Fri | Ref: PE16 ATA Recruitment are supporting a leading UK‑based engineering and automation specialist as they continue to strengthen their project delivery capability in response to continued growth across the automotive sector. This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer to take ownership of bespoke mechanical and automated engineering projects, acting as the technical link between design, manufacturing, suppliers and customers. About the Business The company designs and manufactures engineered‑to‑order mechanical tooling, jigs, fixtures, torque reaction systems and automated assembly equipment for use in high‑precision manufacturing environments. All projects are delivered in‑house from concept design through to manufacture, assembly, testing and handover. Customers include major OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers within the automotive sector, where quality, accuracy and on‑time delivery are critical. With a strong reputation and increasing order intake, the business is investing further in its engineering and project capability to support future growth. The Role – Project Engineer As a Project Engineer, you will manage and support the delivery of bespoke mechanical and automated engineering projects from order handover through to installation and final sign‑off. You will act as the key engineering interface between sales, mechanical design engineers, manufacturing, suppliers and customers, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, to cost and to specification. This role suits an engineer who enjoys technical ownership, coordination and problem‑solving within a fast‑paced, low‑volume, high‑variety engineering environment. Key Responsibilities Act as the main technical interface between design, manufacturing and the client Attend project handover meetings to fully understand scope, requirements and constraints Plan and coordinate project activities, milestones, costs and resources Review and interpret 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs and technical documentation Provide technical support to the shop floor during manufacturing and build Coordinate procurement of bought‑out components and subcontracted services Liaise with suppliers to ensure components meet specification and delivery dates Support risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and pre‑delivery inspections Attend occasional customer sites to support installation, commissioning or troubleshooting Track progress and report status, risks and issues to senior management What We’re Looking For Essential: Proven experience in a Project Engineer or Project‑focused Engineering role Strong mechanical engineering background Ability to read and interpret 3D CAD models and 2D drawings Confident coordinating multiple projects simultaneously Strong communication and stakeholder management skills Practical, hands‑on engineering mindset Qualifications: HNC / HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience) What’s on Offer Salary: £45,000 – £48,000 Hours: 40 per week, Monday to Friday Flexible start and finish times Holidays: 22 days + Bank Holidays Pension: employer contribution Life assurance Supportive, engineering‑led culture with real responsibility and influence Why Apply?
