We are seeking a skilled and proactive Governance Solicitor to join a high‑performing Joint Legal Services team. About the Role You will provide expert legal advice across a broad range of governance, constitutional, and public law matters. Working closely with senior officers, elected members, and service leads, you will help ensure that the authorities operate lawfully, transparently, and in line with best practice. Key Responsibilities * Advise on local government law, governance frameworks, and constitutional matters, including: * Committee structures and decision‑making processes * Scheme of delegation and constitutional reviews * Standards and member conduct * Information governance, FOI, and data protection issues * Public law challenges and judicial review * Draft, review, and update governance documents, policies, and procedures. * Support democratic services with agenda preparation, report reviews, and meeting governance. * Provide clear, pragmatic advice to officers and members on complex or sensitive issues. * Manage your own caseload while contributing to cross‑authority projects and service improvements. * Work collaboratively within a shared‑service model, adapting to the needs of multiple partner councils. Skills & Experience * Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with strong public‑sector governance experience. * Solid understanding of local government law, administrative law, and constitutional frameworks. * Excellent drafting skills and the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical guidance. * Confident advising senior stakeholders and working in politically sensitive environments. * Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across different authorities
