The Opportunity We are working with a well-established and growing business within the building materials sector, looking to appoint an experienced Area Sales Manager to drive growth across Central Scotland. This is a field-based role offering a high level of autonomy, working alongside a supportive internal account team to develop both new and existing business. It’s an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven individual with strong industry knowledge and established relationships to make a real impact. Key Responsibilities * Identify and secure new business opportunities across construction, housebuilding, and trade sectors * Develop and manage a portfolio of key accounts, building long-term, profitable relationships * Promote a broad range of building materials, working closely with internal teams and suppliers * Prepare and present quotations, proposals, and tenders in line with commercial targets * Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer demand to identify growth opportunities * Collaborate with operations, logistics, and procurement to ensure excellent service delivery * Represent the business at customer and supplier events to strengthen relationships * Achieve and exceed sales, margin, and growth targets * Maintain accurate pipeline reporting and provide regular forecasts to management Role Overview * Deliver a high level of service across an established customer base * Build and grow relationships with both new and existing clients * Maximise customer spend through proactive account development * Regularly visit customers to strengthen partnerships and drive revenue * Work closely with suppliers to identify opportunities and improve profitability * Stay up to date with product knowledge through ongoing training * Support wider business functions where required About You * Proven track record in external sales or business development within building materials / merchanting * Strong knowledge of timber and construction products * Established network within construction, contractor, or housebuilding sectors in Central Scotland * Highly driven with a proactive approach to winning new business * Commercially astute with a strong understanding of margins and pricing * Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills * Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working independently * Positive, ambitious, and target-driven mindset * Full UK driving licence What’s on Offer * Competitive base salary with realistic OTE of £48,000 – £58,000 * Company car or car allowance * Opportunity to join a stable, growing business with strong market presence * Clear opportunities for progression and career development * Supportive and collaborative working environment Next Steps If you’re an experienced sales professional within the building materials sector looking for your next move, we’d love to hear from you
