Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Tier 1 Main Contractor Location: Welwyn Garden City / Northern Home Counties We are currently working with a Tier 1 main contractor who is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their Construction London & Home Counties business. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and highly regarded contractor delivering projects across education, leisure, healthcare, and life sciences sectors. With projects typically ranging from £20m-£70m, this role offers exposure to complex, high-value schemes and the chance to develop your commercial skills within a supportive and dynamic team environment. About the Role As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team across all stages of project delivery, gaining hands-on experience and responsibility across a variety of packages. You will be working closely with Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers, contributing to the successful financial management of projects. Within the Construction London & Home Counties business, you will: Undertake costing activities under direction, utilising a sound understanding of the project cost coding structure Measure completed works for allocated sections of the project for interim valuations and final accounts Record and agree measurements with client and subcontractor representatives Assist in preparing applications for payment and final account documentation Provide comprehensive financial and surveying-related information for senior management Contribute to monthly performance review meetings and reporting processes Support accurate cost reporting and forecasting Collate and maintain site records required for interim and final account payments, including materials received records Assist in subcontractor procurement, package management, and administration Project Experience You will gain exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects including: Education facilities Leisure developments Healthcare schemes Life sciences projectsTypical project values range from £20m to £70m, offering excellent experience across multiple work packages and disciplines. Requirements To be considered for this role, you should have: Experience working within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor environment A strong desire to develop commercial awareness and engage with project teams Experience or exposure to projects within the £20m-£70m range (education and leisure experience desirable) A good understanding of construction techniques and processes Experience supporting cost control, package management, and commercial reportingQualifications: BSc or HND (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline Working towards or holding professional membership (CIOB or RICS preferred)Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of collating and producing site records for interim and final accounts Understanding of cost reporting processes and materials received records Good numerical, analytical, and organisational skills Working Environment & Culture You will be joining a collaborative and inclusive team within a growing London & Home Counties business.
