Business Development Manager (Renewable Energy)


Business Development Director What We Are Looking For: We are seeking a technically minded and commercially driven Technical Business Development Manager to drive growth across our renewable energy solutions portfolio, with a particular focus on Solar PV, LED Lighting, and EV Charging. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong technical knowledge and sales expertise who can bridge the gap between technical design, bid management, and client relationship development. You will play a pivotal role in securing high-value projects through consultative technical sales, supporting bid and tender submissions, and managing strategic key accounts. Key Objectives: (What are the expected roles, responsibilities and outputs of the role? Key Performance Indicators) • Lead technical sales engagements with prospective and existing customers, providing informed, consultative guidance on renewable energy solutions. • Support and manage bid and tender processes, working with the commercial and technical teams to ensure accurate, competitive, and timely submissions. • Take ownership of key account management, ensuring long-term relationships are nurtured and expanded across multiple stakeholders. • Identify and qualify new business opportunities within both public and private sectors, leveraging technical expertise to align solutions with client needs. • Develop preliminary designs and proposals in collaboration with the engineering and design teams, ensuring feasibility and compliance. • Prepare and deliver compelling technical presentations and proposals to senior decision-makers. • Collaborate with the wider commercial and operational teams to define project timelines, critical milestones, and resource requirements. • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, opportunities, and bid progress within our CRM system (Salesforce). • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments to inform commercial strategy. • Represent the company at conferences, exhibitions, and industry forums, reinforcing our reputation as a trusted technical partner. • Consistently meet and exceed defined sales and bid success targets. Key Relationships/Interactions: (Internally and Externally) Externally • Customers - Act as a trusted advisor, ensuring technical and commercial needs are met. • Consultants/Channel Partners - Build and leverage relationships to identify joint opportunities and expand market reach. • Installation Partners - Collaborate to align design specifications and delivery schedules. Internally • Commercial Team - Work closely to shape and deliver winning bids and proposals. • Design & Technical Teams - Translate client requirements into practical and compliant technical solutions. • Project Delivery Teams - Ensure smooth handover from sales to delivery. Knowledge/Skills/Experience/Behaviours Needed: Essential - Proven track record in technical sales within renewable energy or a related engineering/technology sector. - Experience supporting or leading bid and tender processes, including writing and reviewing technical content. - Strong knowledge of Solar PV (roof and ground mount), LED lighting systems, and EV charging infrastructure. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical solutions clearly. - Experience in key account management, maintaining and growing high-value customer relationships. - Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance client requirements and business profitability. - Highly organised with excellent time management, able to manage multiple bids and accounts simultaneously. - Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred). - Full driving licence with flexibility to travel as required. Desirable - Experience in delivering high-value renewable energy bids for public sector frameworks or major private sector clients. - Familiarity with DNO (Distribution Network Operator) processes, planning permissions, and structural survey requirements. - Previous exposure to Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) or financed solutions. - Leadership experience – managing and developing successful teams. - Strong network of industry contacts within the renewable energy sector.
