Design Manager * Location: Reading * Project Type: MOD Framework – New Build & Refurbishment * Rate: Up to £350 per day DOE We are working with a leading Main Contractor delivering a long-term MOD framework in Reading, offering a secure pipeline of work for a minimum of 3 years, with potential for further extension. The project comprises a combination of new build and refurbishment schemes, forming part of a wider defence infrastructure programme. The new build elements will include a variety of structures such as office buildings, training facilities, storage units, and ancillary buildings, constructed using a mix of steel frame and reinforced concrete (RC) frame construction methods. Refurbishment works will involve upgrades to existing MOD facilities, including internal reconfigurations, M&E enhancements, and fabric repairs within live operational environments. Security Clearance Required Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be eligible to undergo security vetting. Key Responsibilities: * Leading the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery * Coordinating internal and external design consultants, architects, and specialist subcontractors * Ensuring design outputs meet project specifications, programme milestones, and technical requirements * Managing design approvals and facilitating design reviews with client and stakeholder teams * Identifying and mitigating design risks early in the process * Supporting value engineering and buildability reviews in collaboration with delivery teams * Ensuring full compliance with MOD standards, regulations, and security requirements Requirements: * Previous experience as a Design Manager on major construction projects, preferably within MOD or government frameworks * Strong technical understanding of both new build (steel/RC frame) and refurbishment works * Ability to manage multiple design packages and interface with various disciplines * Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills * Proficiency in relevant design and document management software * Eligibility for security clearance is essential What’s on Offer: * Long-term career opportunity on a secure MOD framework * Transition from temporary to permanent employment with a well-established contractor * Exposure to complex and high-profile infrastructure projects * Collaborative and forward-thinking project environment To apply for this role please send your CV through the portal or get in contact with Katy Challis at Falcon Green directly
