Advanced Digital Systems & Storage Engineer (Band 5) Location: Hertfordshire (On-site) Sector: NHS Contract: Temporary (ASAP – April 2026) Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm (37.5 hours per week) We’re supporting a large and highly regarded NHS Trust in Hertfordshire to recruit an Advanced Digital Systems & Storage Engineer to join their Digital Infrastructure team on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting critical healthcare systems within a complex, high-availability environment—where your work will directly contribute to frontline patient care. The Role As a senior technical specialist within the Digital team, you’ll provide 2nd and 3rd line support across a broad range of infrastructure services, ensuring systems remain secure, resilient, and fully operational. You’ll act as a key escalation point, working closely with internal IT teams and external suppliers to resolve issues, maintain performance, and support ongoing projects and improvements. Key Responsibilities * Provide 2nd/3rd line support for server, storage, and infrastructure systems * Administer and maintain Windows/Linux server environments * Support virtualisation platforms (VMware/Hyper-V) * Ensure robust backup, disaster recovery, and security processes are in place * Monitor system performance and carry out proactive maintenance and patching * Support Active Directory, user access, and permissions management * Assist with infrastructure projects, upgrades, and system implementations * Work closely with Service Desk to ensure timely resolution of incidents * Maintain accurate technical documentation * What We’re Looking For * Proven experience in a 3rd line / infrastructure engineering role (min. 3 years) * Strong knowledge of: * Windows Server &/or Linux * Virtualisation (VMware or Hyper-V) * Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) * Backup, security, and patch management * Experience supporting enterprise-scale server environments * Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills * Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders Desirable: * Experience within an NHS or healthcare environment * Knowledge of SCCM and application packaging * Relevant certifications (Microsoft, VMware, CompTIA, ITIL) Why Apply? * Opportunity to work within a major NHS Trust supporting critical services * Exposure to large-scale, complex IT environments * Meaningful work that directly impacts patient care * Collaborative and forward-thinking digital team
