Jetty Operator Location: Purfleet Salary: £28,000 + Benefits Hours: Monday–Friday Industry: Oil & Bulk Liquid Terminal Operations About the Opportunity We are recruiting for a reliable and safety‑focused Jetty Operator to join a leading terminal operation based in Purfleet. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in port operations, oil handling, or industrial environments who is looking to build a long-term career in a specialist, high‑responsibility role. The successful candidate will play a key part in supporting vessel operations, ensuring safe transfer of oil products, and carrying out essential sampling and jetty duties. Key Responsibilities Jetty & Vessel Operations • Assist with the safe berthing and unberthing of vessels at the jetty. • Connect and disconnect loading arms, hoses, and transfer equipment. • Monitor cargo transfer operations to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. • Communicate with ship crews, terminal control, and supervisors throughout operations. Oil Sampling & Quality Control • Obtain oil samples from cargo ships in line with regulatory and customer requirements. • Label, store, and deliver samples for laboratory testing. • Record sampling data accurately and maintain documentation. Safety & Compliance • Follow all terminal safety procedures, including PPE, permit-to-work systems, and emergency protocols. • Conduct routine jetty inspections and report hazards or equipment defects. • Support environmental protection measures during cargo operations. General Operational Support • Assist with routine maintenance of jetty equipment. • Complete operational logs, checklists, and shift reports. • Work collaboratively with the wider operations team to ensure smooth vessel turnaround. Experience & Skills Required • Previous experience in port operations, oil terminals, petrochemical sites, or similar industrial environments (preferred). • Understanding of safe systems of work and working around hazardous liquids. • Strong attention to detail, especially when handling samples and documentation. • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. • Good communication skills and a proactive, safety‑first mindset. • Training such as marine operations, confined space, or oil handling is beneficial but not essential.
