Principal Design Engineer

Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for Principal Design Engineer on a 6 Month Rolling Contract, based in Glasgow. Role Summary Principal Design Engineer will lead and work in a skilled team on a wide range of transmission substation projects. The position will focus on the project and tender engineering and its interfaces and scope of work involved in HV - substation design to meet customer needs, legislative demands and standards. * Overall responsible for managing & leading all engineering activities from early project engagement through to the As-Built stage with strict adherence to Project Specifications & standards including QA/QC, HSSE & Integrity. * Technical lead of large and complex EHV/HV Air & Gas Insulated Substation (AIS & GIS) projects in UK. * Supervise, coordinate & provide guidance to engineering teams within the company (local & remote), internal & external partners, sub-suppliers, secondary engineers & civil engineers. * Provide information for civil designs and coordination of interfaces between construction planning, steel structure engineering, protection and control system, auxiliary power system and all equipment suppliers for the project. * Participate and lead in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, handle site queries and take necessary actions up to as-built documentation * Engineering budget, schedule, forecast, risk & change management activities. * Technical claim management & supporting PM/Contracting/Operation management team. Requirements * Bachelor or master’s in electrical engineering or equivalent * Proven experience in transmission substation engineering, with focus on detailed design, tender process and site support. * Knowledge of required SSEN & SPEN requirements and standards. * Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it * Result orientated team player with a proactive approach. * Excellent in communication, to interact with external and internal parties at all levels in a multi-cultural environment. * Expert knowledge in Substation design and engineering, Layouts, Primary design & calculations, Grounding & Lightning design, Steel design inputs, transformers, HV & MV Switchgear systems, * Knowledge of system studies like load flow, short circuit calculation; Single Line Diagrams, CT/VT calculations, Auxiliary Power Systems, power cables. * Knowledge of secondary engineering, protection and control system. * Experience in Installation & Commissioning is a plus. * Strong in MS Office, knowledge in MicroStation and AutoCAD is required. * Fluency in English – both written and spoken * Availability to travel 25 % of the time (domestic/international travel) * working in an office and on a construction site Our Company Rubicon Consulting is a Talent management consultancy which helps you to optimise business performance and competitive advantage by choosing the right people first time
