Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic team, producing practical and efficient designs for bespoke mechanical and structural applications used across the infrastructure sector. Responsibilities: You will take ownership of designs from concept through to installation, ensuring they are robust, manufacturable, and compliant with relevant standards. This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong emphasis on hand calculations, fabrication awareness, and close collaboration with workshop and site teams. * Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies from cradle to grave * Perform hand calculations (stress, bolted & welded joints, load assessments) to validate designs * Produce and review technical drawings and 3D models using CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD) * Liaise with fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical and weldable * Apply relevant BS, EN, Eurocode, and ISO standards * Provide technical support to project managers, fabricators, and installation teams * Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental requirements Experience Required: * Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering * Proven experience in mechanical design engineering * Strong competence in manual hand calculations * Solid understanding of welding principles and fabrication processes * Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) * Good knowledge of materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing methods * Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and communication skills Desirable: * Experience in infrastructure or construction engineering * Familiarity with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation) * 5+ years’ experience in an engineering environment Interested?
