Product Design Engineer

Product Design Engineer Haydock Up to £55,000 We’re supporting a growing, family-owned thermoformed food packaging manufacturer in Haydock who are looking to strengthen their NPD and in-house tooling capability. This is a hands-on role in a busy SME environment where you’ll take products from concept through to production, with real influence over design, tooling and process improvement. The Role * Design and develop thermoformed plastic packaging to customer specification * Create 3D models and detailed 2D drawings using SolidWorks (or similar) * Apply key thermoforming principles (draft angles, shrinkage, de-nest features etc.) * Design, manage and commission in-house tooling projects * Programme CNC milling machines for prototyping and tooling manufacture * Develop production-ready prototypes using modelboard and CAM software * Work closely with Engineering, Production and Sales teams * Support customer discussions and translate concepts into manufacturable designs * Drive improvements in tooling performance, material usage and time to market What We’re Looking For * Experience in thermoformed plastic packaging * Strong SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD) capability * Hands-on tooling and CNC/CAM experience * Understanding of food-grade / GMP environments * Commercial awareness and ability to work directly with customers * Comfortable in a fast-paced, growing SME The Opportunity * Join a stable, privately owned manufacturer with long-term growth plans * Real autonomy and influence over NPD direction * Opportunity to develop and lead as the business expands * 40-hour week, Monday–Friday * £55,000 basic + paid overtime * 30 days holiday including bank holidays
