Power Electronics Engineer

We are supporting a highly specialised engineering organisation developing high-reliability power systems for critical long-life infrastructure applications. This is a senior System Design role focused on high-voltage DC-DC power architecture. The product is a modular multi-stage power conversion system, converting low-voltage DC input into multi-kilovolt DC output, designed to operate with 99.999% availability over a 25-year lifecycle. This is not a pure board-level design role and not a requirements-capture position. You will own the system architecture, translating product requirements into subsystem specifications and defining the overall technical strategy. Key Responsibilities • Define and develop DC-DC system architecture • Translate product feature lists into subsystem requirements • Allocate reliability targets across converters and subsystems • Define redundancy strategy and technical development roadmap • Work closely with electronics, software and mechanical teams • Support technical reviews, validation and long-term product evolution Essential Experience • 8+ years in power electronics • Hands-on design experience with DC-DC power supplies (3-5kW+) • Strong understanding of control loops and power converter behaviour • Experience designing high-reliability systems • Experience taking complex products from concept to production • Strong written and verbal technical communication Desirable Backgrounds • Industrial power supplies • Rail or heavy industry • High-voltage systems • Energy or grid-related power conversion Automotive validation-only profiles are unlikely to be suitable unless they have genuine DC-DC architecture ownership. This is a succession opportunity, working alongside an established Principal Engineer with long-term product ownership. Excellent benefits package on top of a market leading salary, including car allowance, 10% bonus, private medical & health insurance, life assurance (8x salary), and more
