Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Data Centre Shift Technician / Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a growing team within a state-of-the-art data centre environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining operational resilience, statutory compliance, and 100% uptime across all site infrastructure, working alongside experienced engineers to ensure strict adherence to SLAs, statutory obligations, and Health & Safety standards. Key Responsibilities Operations & Maintenance Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across critical electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems Monitor, operate, and fault-find Building Management Systems (BMS), Power Monitoring Systems (PMS), and Control & Monitoring Systems (CMS) to ensure continuous availability Respond promptly to alarms and emergency callouts, diagnosing and rectifying faults efficiently Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with L8 and water hygiene regulations Supervise subcontractors, ensuring adherence to approved RAMS, site procedures, and contractual obligations Manage and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) systems Ensure all activities meet statutory, safety, and contractual requirements Technical Oversight & Commissioning Oversee M&E contractors operating in accordance with MOP, SOP, and EOP procedures Support commissioning activities, witnessing, and handover of new infrastructure and upgrades Assist in coordinating and supporting P1, P2, and P3 incidents alongside Shift Managers and the Data Centre Manager Compliance & Documentation Maintain accurate site logbooks and statutory compliance records Conduct dynamic risk assessments and promote best practice in Health & Safety Prepare, review, and approve Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS) Accurately complete maintenance documentation and CAFM task sheets Client & Stakeholder Engagement Act as a key point of contact for client representatives and attend operational meetings as required Work closely with the Data Centre Manager and shift teams to ensure seamless service delivery Deliver structured and comprehensive shift handovers, including detailed logs, reports, and plant status updates Technical Scope Electrical Systems Single and three-phase systems UPS systems Generators Control panels and switchgear HVAC Systems Air Handling Units (AHUs) Fan Coil Units (FCUs) Split systems Chillers Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) Fire & Life Safety Systems Fire detection and suppression systems Water Systems Open and closed chilled water systems Incident Management Support and manage unplanned faults and emergency situations within a live critical environment Skills, Knowledge & Experience Essential Experience Proven experience within a critical environment (data centres, financial institutions, or similar) Strong hands-on expertise with UPS systems, generators, HVAC plant, and BMS platforms Experience managing real-time incidents and fault conditions in live environments Ability to coordinate complex maintenance and operational activities Qualifications Essential City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Services or Maintenance 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Emergency First Aid at Work Desirable HV Authorised Person status Confined Space & Manual Handling certification PASMA and IPAF Personal Attributes Excellent communication and customer service skills Strong analytical and problem-solving ability Calm, decisive, and professional under pressure Competent in preparing RAMS and conducting dynamic risk assessments IT literate with experience using CAFM systems Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or as part of a team Flexible with shift patterns and overtime requirements Comfortable working at height and using vertical access equipment Additional Requirements Security clearance (BPSS or SC) may be required High standards of integrity and professionalism Key Benefits Competitive salary: £48,000 – £52,000 (depending on experience) 10% annual performance bonus (paid April/May) Private healthcare 25 days annual leave Free on-site parking Daily meal allowance Life assurance and pension scheme Overtime opportunities
