We are seeking an experienced Principal EC&I Engineer to support the delivery of complex safety‑related projects within a highly regulated environment. This role is ideally suited to an engineer with a strong background in Control, Electrical & Instrumentation (CE&I) and Functional Safety, particularly within the nuclear industry. You will play a key role in the delivery of CE&I Safety System design, working closely with the safety case team and technical leads to ensure compliance with relevant standards and lifecycle processes. Job Title: Principal EC&I Engineer Contract: 12‑month contract (Inside IR35) Location: Hybrid / UK Clearance: Must be eligible for SC clearance Industry: Highly regulated sector - nuclear experience strongly preferred Key Responsibilities Lead and deliver CE&I safety system design packages across complex, safety‑critical projects. Provide technical governance and oversight on functional safety matters. Ensure alignment with IEC safety standards, the nuclear functional safety lifecycle, and internal assurance processes. Coordinate with Safety Case, Systems Engineering, and wider project teams to ensure safe, compliant, and robust engineering solutions. Conduct SIL determination and verification activities. Produce and review technical documentation, including safety assessments, design reports, and lifecycle records. Support hazard identification, risk assessments, and design justification workstreams. Lead design reviews, technical workshops, and stakeholder engagements. Essential Experience Proven experience delivering CE&I Safety System Design in a highly regulated sector (nuclear preferred). Strong understanding of IEC‑61508 and IEC‑61511. Familiarity with the nuclear functional safety lifecycle. Demonstrable experience with SIL determination and verification activities. Experience working directly with or alongside Safety Case teams. Ability to obtain SC clearance. Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
