Pastoral Officer


Key Responsibilities Provide day‑to‑day pastoral support to pupils with a range of SEN needs (including ASD, SEMH, MLD, SLD, and complex needs). Support behaviour management strategies and contribute to personalised behaviour plans. Monitor attendance, punctuality, and welfare concerns, escalating issues appropriately. Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, offering guidance, mentoring, and emotional support. Work collaboratively with the safeguarding team, following school policies and procedures. Liaise with parents/carers and external professionals to ensure consistent support for pupils. Contribute to a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture. Essential Requirements Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (school, alternative provision, youth work, or similar). Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour support, and pastoral care. Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and solution‑focused in challenging situations. Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills. Confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team. A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one). Desirable Qualifications Training in Safeguarding, Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour‑support approaches. Relevant qualifications such as: Level 3/4 in Supporting Teaching & Learning Youth Work qualification Counselling skills Psychology, Social Work, or Education‑related degree Experience in specialist or alternative provisions
