Job Title : PLC Engineer Location : London Salary : £60,000 to £70,000 We are working on behalf of a specialist power and control systems contractor seeking an experienced PLC Control Systems Engineer (5–10 years’ experience) to design, program, test, and commission industrial control systems. The role focuses on power solutions projects, including diesel generator controls, switchgear, ATS/AMF panels, load sharing and synchronisation schemes, and associated HMI/SCADA systems. This is a full lifecycle engineering role covering design documentation, coding, FAT/SAT, and on-site commissioning. Responsibilities: Design and develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications from concept through to commissioning. Produce and manage key documentation including FDS/DDS, I/O lists, Cause & Effect, and test plans. Integrate generator controllers (DSE, ComAp, Woodward), synchronisation schemes, ATS/AMF logic, and power management systems. Interface PLCs with protection relays, breakers, UPS systems, BMS/EMS, and instrumentation. Lead FAT/SAT, loop testing, simulation, and on-site commissioning activities. Troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, and industrial communications networks. Ensure compliance with relevant electrical, safety, and quality standards. Contribute to version control, cybersecurity best practices, and structured coding standards. Provide technical support and mentorship within the engineering team. Skills / Experience / Qualifications: At least 5 years’ experience in PLC and industrial control systems engineering. Strong hands-on programming experience with Siemens (TIA Portal) and/or Rockwell (Studio 5000). Experience writing system code from design stage through to deployment. Proven integration experience with generator control systems and power distribution equipment. Strong knowledge of industrial protocols (Modbus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA). Ability to read and mark up electrical schematics and panel drawings. Good understanding of functional safety principles and UK electrical standards. Degree/HND in Electrical, Control, or Automation Engineering desirable (or equivalent experience). Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.
