Freelance Quantity Surveyor Project: New Build Automotive Showroom Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire Contract Type: Freelance / Contract Duration: Approx. 9–12 months Start Date: Immediate / Negotiable Day Rate: Up to £350 per day (DOE) Role Overview An experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor is required to provide commercial support on a new build automotive showroom project in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in a high-quality new build scheme, working closely with the project and site teams to ensure successful commercial delivery from procurement through to final account. The role will suit a proactive and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor with strong experience in managing new build construction projects. Key Responsibilities Manage commercial aspects of the project from procurement to final account Prepare and manage subcontractor procurement, negotiation, and appointments Produce cost reports, forecasts, and commercial updates Manage variations and change control processes Assess subcontractor applications and prepare payment recommendations Prepare and submit interim valuations and final accounts Monitor project costs, budgets, and commercial risks Maintain accurate records and commercial documentation Work closely with the Project Manager and site team to support project delivery Requirements Essential: Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor on new build construction projects Strong understanding of JCT contracts Experience managing subcontractor packages Strong commercial awareness and cost management skills Ability to work independently on live construction projects Available to attend site in Portsmouth regularly Desirable: Experience delivering automotive showroom or commercial projects Main contractor experience Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction What’s on Offer Day rate up to £350 per day Long-term freelance contract (9–12 months) Opportunity to work on a high-quality new build automotive project Immediate start available Potential for ongoing freelance opportunities How to Apply Please submit your CV along with your day rate and availability.
