We are seeking an energetic and highly experienced Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT) team. You’ll work within a talented, multi-disciplinary environment delivering cutting-edge, high-impact programmes for major Water sector clients, including United Utilities, Yorkshire Water, Scottish Water, Northern Ireland Water, and several other regional water authorities. As a Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer, your responsibilities will include: * Leading or coordinating a team of Mechanical Engineers to deliver high-quality technical design on complex, multi-disciplinary projects, including pumping systems and water/wastewater treatment designs. * Producing and reviewing design reports, calculations, drawings, and scopes of work. * Providing expert technical input on mechanical components of major projects and supporting project managers in meeting time and budget targets. * Collaborating closely with internal teams and clients, as well as engaging with operational and service-based activities. * Mentoring and developing junior and early-career engineers. * Working independently with minimal supervision, applying sound professional judgement to complex challenges. * Contributing technical expertise to bid proposals. * Supporting integrated design work with UK and international teams. * Ensuring all work meets rigorous quality assurance standards, including peer-review responsibilities. About You * Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. * Chartered or Incorporated Mechanical Engineer. * Demonstrable experience leading mechanical design delivery within a consultancy and multi-disciplinary environment. * Ability to take a broad, innovative approach to solving design challenges. * Strong technical experience across mechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, screens, and chemical dosing systems, with solid understanding of UK legislation, design standards, and industry practices. * Familiarity with key legislation, including CDM and DSEAR. * Proficient in relevant analytical and design software. * Experience in the Water sector is advantageous. * Strong communicator capable of effectively conveying technical concepts to diverse teams. * Self-motivated, proactive, and collaborative, with a strong commitment to shared project success.
