Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer


Principal / Senior Mechanical Engineer | Water Sector | Vertical Recruitment are working with a multidisciplinary consultancy delivering engineering, asset management and commercial services across the water, energy and environmental sectors. Due to an increase in workload and long term framework demand, they are looking to appoint a Principal or Senior Mechanical Engineer to support major water sector programmes. The Opportunity - This role is suited to an experienced mechanical engineer with strong technical knowledge of wastewater and treatment processes, combined with leadership and mentoring capability. You will take a lead role in project delivery, technical assurance and client engagement, while supporting the development of junior engineers and contributing to business growth. The position offers hybrid working, with regular collaboration from a client office environment and site visits as required. Projects and Sectors • Wastewater and sewage treatment • Water infrastructure and treatment assets • Feasibility, outline and detailed design schemes • Framework and long term programme delivery Responsibilities are likely to include: • Leading mechanical design across feasibility, outline and detailed stages • Producing and reviewing hydraulic calculations, pipelines and pump duties • Managing CAD resource and overseeing production of drawings • Undertaking technical reviews and design assurance • Mentoring and line managing junior engineers • Supporting fee proposals, resource planning and cost estimates • Providing client facing technical leadership • Ensuring commercial, contractual and regulatory compliance • Supporting innovation and development of standard and bespoke solutions • Considering CAPEX and OPEX impacts throughout design You will ideally have: • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar • Chartered Engineer status or working towards • Strong experience within wastewater or water treatment projects • Proven leadership, mentoring and client facing experience • Commercial and contractual awareness • Experience producing and reviewing technical reports and calculations • Knowledge of UK water industry standards and regulations • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid and collaborative environment Benefits • Competitive salary • Discretionary bonus • 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays • Option to purchase additional leave • Employer pension contribution • Paid professional membership • Life assurance • Electric car scheme • Company laptop and mobile • Employee assistance programme • Training and career progression
