Mechanical Design Engineer

Mechanical Design Engineer – Contract 6 Months outside IR35 Hybrid | Birmingham £35–£40 per hour We’re recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support a leading engineering business based in Birmingham on a hybrid contract basis. The role focuses on the design of mechanical and mechatronic systems for automation and motion-based applications. Key Responsibilities * Mechanical design of mechanisms, kinematics, and linkages * 3D CAD design and detailing using SolidWorks * Development of mechatronic and automated systems * Integration of actuators, motion control components, and sensors * Supporting prototyping and proof-of-concept builds * Applying DFM (Design for Manufacturing) principles * Working closely with manufacturing and cross-disciplinary engineering teams Required Skills & Experience * Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer * Strong background in mechanisms and mechanical systems * Solid SolidWorks CAD experience (assemblies and drawings) * Experience with automation, mechatronics, or motion control systems * Knowledge of actuators, sensors, and motion components * Experience with DFM, prototyping, and concept development * Ability to work autonomously in a contract environment Desirable * Background in special purpose machinery or automation * Experience with servo, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems Contract Details * Location: Birmingham (Hybrid) * Rate: £35–£40 per hour * Start Date: ASAP
