Project Manager – Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) An established and growing building services delivery business is seeking an experienced M&E Project Manager to support an expanding portfolio of projects across the UK. This role offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative and forward-thinking team delivering technically challenging mechanical and electrical projects within the built environment. The business operates across public sector, commercial, and residential markets, delivering projects typically ranging from £25,000 to £1 million per site. The focus is on refurbishment, retrofit, and decarbonisation works, supporting clients in reducing operational carbon and improving building performance in line with long-term sustainability targets. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the full lifecycle delivery of mechanical and electrical works, from early feasibility and design coordination through procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover. Projects are often delivered across multiple sites or phased programmes, requiring strong organisational capability and technical leadership. The role involves working in live and occupied environments, coordinating with clients, end users, contractors, and internal technical teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery. What’s on Offer 28 days annual leave plus public holidays Employer pension contribution of at least 6% Structured training and personal development programme Monday to Friday working with flexible start and finish times Hybrid working arrangement Additional Benefits Private medical cover Holiday buy and sell scheme Electric vehicle scheme Cycle to work scheme Paid volunteering day focused on sustainability Regular company-funded social events Equal opportunities employer Typical Project Scope Projects typically involve mechanical and electrical works within: Public sector buildings including education, leisure, and housing Commercial buildings including offices, mixed-use, industrial, and retail Large domestic and multi-residential properties Typical works include: Heating system installations and replacements Air source heat pumps, air-to-air, and hybrid systems LTHW, DHW, and plantroom upgrades Ventilation and air-conditioning systems Electrical upgrades including power, lighting, containment, and controls Renewable technologies such as solar PV and battery storage Building management and control systems Coordination with fabric improvements including insulation, glazing, and airtightness Retrofit and decarbonisation works delivered within occupied buildings Individual project values generally range from £25k to £1m and are often delivered as part of wider programmes or multi-site frameworks under Design & Build or Principal Contractor arrangements. The Role * Manage multiple M&E projects from pre-construction through to completion * Develop and control programmes, budgets, and cost forecasts * Procure and manage mechanical and electrical contractors and specialists * Administer contracts including valuations, variations, and final accounts * Coordinate design information and technical documentation * Lead site and progress meetings with stakeholders * Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, CDM, and health and safety legislation * Monitor site quality, workmanship, and technical compliance * Oversee commissioning, testing, snagging, and defects resolution * Ensure timely delivery of O&M manuals and as-built information * Produce concise progress, cost, and risk reports * Identify and mitigate project risks * Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons-learned processes Required Experience Essential * Proven experience delivering mechanical and electrical building services projects * Experience managing M&E works or packages valued between £25k and £1m * Background across public sector, commercial, or residential projects * Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical systems * Experience working in live or occupied environments * Good knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CDM, and health and safety * Strong commercial awareness including cost control and variations * Ability to manage multiple projects and contractors concurrently * Full UK driving licence Desirable Background in building services engineering or M&E contracting Experience within Design & Build delivery models Exposure to low-carbon and renewable technologies Project management qualifications (APM, PRINCE2, PMP or similar)
