Commercial Solar PV Estimator

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Commercial Solar PV Estimator to support the growth of our commercial and industrial (C&I) solar division. The role involves producing accurate, competitive and technically compliant cost estimates for Solar PV, battery storage and associated electrical works across commercial projects. You will work closely with sales, design, project management and supply chain teams to ensure all proposals are commercially viable, technically robust and aligned with client requirements, MCS standards and current regulations. Key Responsibilities: Estimating & Commercial Produce detailed cost estimates for commercial and industrial Solar PV and battery storage projects Analyse drawings, specifications, site surveys and client requirements Prepare fully itemised BOMs including panels, inverters, mounting systems, cabling, protection, access and prelims Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations Build accurate labour allowances for electrical and mechanical installation Identify value-engineering opportunities without compromising compliance or quality Support tender submissions and commercial clarifications Technical & Compliance Ensure estimates align with MCS, G99/G100, DNO, BS7671 and HSG requirements Understand roof types, structural loading, ballast vs fixed systems and access constraints Consider grid constraints, export limitations and metering requirements Account for battery storage, load shifting, export tariffs and energy modelling inputs Sales & Project Support Work closely with the sales team to support pricing strategy and margin control Provide technical input to proposals, payback calculations and client queries Support handover from sales to delivery teams Assist with variations, re-pricing and post-contract cost control where required Required Experience & Skills: Essential Proven experience estimating commercial Solar PV projects Strong understanding of UK Solar PV regulations and MCS standards Ability to interpret electrical and construction drawings High level of numerical accuracy and attention to detail Confident communicator with internal teams and suppliers Proficient in Excel and estimating tools Desirable Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) Knowledge of DNO applications and grid compliance Experience working with EPC contractors or C&I installers Familiarity with PV design software (e.g. PV*Sol, OpenSolar, Helioscope) Personal Attributes * Commercially minded with a strong focus on margin and risk * Organised, methodical and able to manage multiple bids simultaneously * Proactive problem solver with a practical approach * Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing renewables business What We Offer * Competitive salary and benefits * Opportunity to work on large-scale commercial renewable projects * Career progression within a growing solar and energy storage business * Flexible working arrangements
