Senior Advisory Lawyer Salary: £69,489 - £81,752 pa Location: London/Hybrid (2 days per week in the office) Hours: Full-time Contract: Permanent x 2 This is an exciting opportunity to take on a wide ranging legal advisory post where you will use your legal expertise to make a real impact, maintaining public confidence in dental services and protecting the safety of patients. The team provides legal advice on a myriad of different disciplines, including in respect of: a. Our regulatory remit in Fitness to Practise and Registration b. Policy development and our public and administrative law obligations c. Legislative development and drafting d. Commercial law, including procurement, contracts and corporate obligations e. Employment law f. Information law g. EU law h. Human rights and equalities legislation i. Criminal enforcement Areas of Responsibility: - Provide accurate, timely and risk-based legal advice to GDC colleagues, the Registrar and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on a wide range of legal issues. - Contribute to the delivery of the GDC’s Corporate Strategy by providing legal advice, reviewing legislative proposals, and working with colleagues in other teams to assess risks and opportunities. There will be an opportunity to play an active role on Project and Programme Boards and present to the ELT, Committees and the Council as appropriate. - Take a proactive approach to identify, monitor and escalate (as appropriate) areas of risk within the GDC, collaborating with colleagues to develop mitigation and proposed solutions, including via the relevant quality assurance processes. - Support the development of colleagues within the team, by sharing and reviewing work of the team and line managing where required. - Deputise for the Principal Advisory Lawyers (where appropriate). These posts are being recruited to support the delivery of the GDC’s Corporate Strategy alongside the delivery of the team’s core business activities. Therefore, we are looking for significant experience in public law and policy, including interpretation of legislation and drafting legislation. Demonstrative experience in employment law and commercial law is also desirable. Finally, successful candidates will have experience of sitting on Project Boards and taking a leading role in the delivery of strategic ambitions. Person Specification: - A qualified and practising solicitor or barrister or ILEX qualified (essential) with experience of working within a statutory, regulatory or similar framework. - Proven ability to identify, manage and escalate risk, within established organisational risk frameworks with excellent legal analytical skills and the ability to analyse complex legal issues and present legally sound, risk-based and proportionate advice and instructions, together with excellent drafting skills, including experience of translating complex legal concepts to clear, user-friendly guidance for a variety of stakeholders. - Demonstrable ability to manage competing priorities, working flexibly with colleagues and clients to manage fluctuating workloads, whilst effectively managing team members of varying levels of experience, supporting their personal and professional development. - Proven ability to create strong working relationships at all levels of the GDC and with external stakeholders, ensuring trust and confidence in the advice provided. - Demonstrable commitment to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.
