Wagon Fitter Location: Peterborough Job Type: Full-Time, Temp to Perm Salary: £36,500 rising to £38,000 per annum Hours: Monday–Friday, 06:00–14:50 (with flexibility for weekend work) Join a Leading Engineering Team as a Wagon Fitter We’re seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join as a Wagon Fitter in a highly skilled maintenance team responsible for keeping freight operations moving safely and efficiently. What You’ll Be Doing As a Wagon Fitter, you’ll play a key role in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of freight wagons, ensuring they meet strict safety and performance standards. Your responsibilities will include: Completing routine servicing, maintenance, and overhaul tasks Inspecting and repairing brakes, suspension, couplings, wheelsets, and underframe components Diagnosing mechanical faults and delivering high-quality repairs Replacing worn parts such as brake blocks, bearings, seals, and pipework Conducting brake tests and functional checks Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and maintenance documents What You’ll Bring Strong mechanical engineering background (rail, HGV, plant, automotive, or similar) Experience with heavy mechanical equipment or wagons (preferred) Competence using hand and power tools Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills Ability to work to deadlines and follow planned maintenance schedules Why Apply?
