Principal Mechanical Engineer Location: Manchester Salary: £55,000 to £65,000 Job Type: Full Time, Permanent Sector: Building Services / Mechanical Engineering The Opportunity An established, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its Manchester-based mechanical team. The consultancy delivers sustainable, technically complex solutions across the built environment and works on a wide range of regional, national, and international projects. This is a senior leadership role offering responsibility for technical excellence, client engagement, project delivery, and team development within a collaborative and high-performing environment. The Role As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the delivery of mechanical building services design across multiple projects and sectors. You will act as a senior technical authority, trusted client advisor, and mentor to the wider mechanical team, ensuring high standards of quality, commercial performance, and risk management. Key responsibilities include: Leading mechanical building services design on complex, large-scale projects Acting as the primary client interface and maintaining long-term professional relationships Defining, agreeing, and managing project briefs, scopes, and deliverables Coordinating all disciplines within a multidisciplinary project team Managing project resources, workloads, and technical outputs Monitoring budgets, programme, and project profitability Ensuring compliance with British Standards, regulations, and best practice Identifying, managing, and mitigating technical and commercial risk Supporting bid preparation and promoting the full consultancy service offering Contributing to the development, mentoring, and performance of engineers within the team Work on Projects typically spanning; Residential, Commercial Offices, Healthcare, Science & Research, Mission-Critical & Data CentresAbout You You will be a highly experienced mechanical building services professional with a strong consultancy background and the ability to lead both people and projects.
