SEN Teaching Assistant


SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception Teach Now Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a friendly, inclusive primary school in Camden in their search for a nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Reception team from February 2026. This role focuses on afternoon support within a Reception class and is perfect for someone who is passionate about early years development and enjoys helping young children build confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours. The Role You will be working closely with pupils who require additional support with learning, communication, behaviour and emotional regulation. The role involves both 1:1 and small group support, helping children access the EYFS curriculum and feel secure within classroom routines. Key responsibilities include: • Providing 1:1 and small group SEN support in a Reception class during afternoon sessions • Supporting early learning in phonics, early literacy, numeracy and play-based activities • Helping children develop social skills, communication and emotional regulation • Supporting transitions (after lunch, between activities and end-of-day routines) • Implementing behaviour strategies with a calm, consistent and nurturing approach • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support staff • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive self-esteem • Sharing feedback on pupil progress, engagement and wellbeing The Ideal Candidate This role would suit someone who: • Has experience supporting children in EYFS or Reception • Has experience working with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) • Is patient, caring and confident supporting young children • Communicates effectively and works well as part of a team • Can follow behaviour plans and support classroom routines consistently • Has a genuine passion for helping children thrive in their early years Desirable (But Not Essential) • Experience supporting children with: • Autism (ASD) • Speech & Language needs (SALT) • ADHD / attention difficulties • Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH) • Team Teach or positive handling training • Cache Level 2 or 3, childcare qualification, or relevant early years experience Requirements • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply) • Right to work in the UK • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection • Ability to commit to a long-term role from February 2026 This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a nurturing school environment where early intervention and emotional wellbeing are truly valued.
