The Role of Project Engineer As a Project Engineer, you’ll lead the delivery of engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring compliance with automotive standards and customer requirements. This is a hands-on role where you’ll collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver innovative solutions on time and within budget. You will work largely independently, reporting progress to the Engineering Manager at key milestones and upon project completion. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate all aspects of the project including planning, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and final sign-off, ensuring delivery within budget and against agreed timing plans and KPIs. Maintain close communication with the customer, responding promptly to specification changes and providing progress updates in line with IATF 16949 requirements. Take full ownership of both customer and internal Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and participate in Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) processes Translate customer specifications into departmental actions or supplier orders, managing resources and tracking progress effectively. Deliver all project outputs on time, clarifying requirements where necessary. Analyse customer and internal changes, including participating in feasibility studies. Apply specific technical skills as required to support customer or colleagues, and assist design verification and sign off reporting. Prepare clear and accurate explanations for change requests (PCR/ECN) and provide precise costings for specification changes. Identify potential project risks, implement corrective actions and conduct root cause analysis to resolve problems. Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analyse (PFMEA), quality history reviews and robustness studies. To be proactive in their approach and think creatively. Ability to work with multiple projects at various stages of product life cycle and plan and prioritise effectively Proven engineering experience in developing complex assemblies What We’re Looking For Essential: Understanding of APQP & PPAP principles Essential: Understanding of Automotive processes and procedures (IATF16949) Essential: Creation and ownership of timing plans (MS Project or equivalent) Desirable: Previous experience working within a Tier 1 Automotive supplier Desirable: Qualified in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
